What is Green Leaves all about?
Green Leaves is a Forest School that supports and encourages Outdoor Learning. Our approach to educating is one which puts the child at the centre of their own learning. It is the child who makes the decision about which activities to participate in, how to approach and solve problems, what they need to reflect on, what their strengths are and what they want to learn next. All this is achieved in the richest of classrooms - the outdoors.
At Green Leaves Forest School, children have regular and repeated access to the same natural space, as well as emergent, experiential, inquiry-based, play-based, and place-based learning. The defining feature of this type of nature education program is that children are provided with opportunities to build an ongoing relationship with the land, to a dedicated educator, to one another, and to themselves.
Activities that happen at Green Leaves Forest School vary and depend on the season, climate, landscape, animals or mini-beasts that visit the area. We explore trees that have blown down, dive into games and learning invitations provided by the educator, play and create with the loose parts that we find. At Green Leaves, the children who are in attendance find themselves learning and exploring whatever captivates their interests on that particular day.
